ARTS EXP'OSION

ARTS EXP’OSION DESCRIPTION

Arts Exp'osion includes 4 different components/activities that are educational, developmental, and fun. This program is for grades K thru 12.

Arts Exp'osion & Recital – Consists of 12 weekly sessions for 2 hours and 15 minutes each. The 12th session is a recital. The students prepare to show off what they learn in a recital as they are introduced to the Arts. This program is for grades K thru 12th grade.

THE PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

1) Music Theory - Children learn how to read music and musical symbols, are taught about famous composers, and engage with our computer music lab that provides an interactive music theory program. The computer music lab does two things for the program: it helps to track student skill and knowledge retention, and it empowers the program to customize the curriculum specifically for each student to provide individualized growth and advancement. This class focuses on working with time signatures and rhythm, so math, especially fractions, is taught alongside music.

2) Piano Instruction - Each child receives beginner piano instruction. Musical scales and drills are used to help each student develop to the point of opening a beginner book and playing on one's own. Each lesson builds upon the previous, and by the 4th lesson students are given songs to learn and develop for a recital in week 12.

3) Poetry, Drama, & Inspiration - Students learn to understand basic poetry by reading and discussing poems and poets. They begin to write their own poems and are challenged to memorize one of their poems and share at the recital.

4) Painting On Canvas - Students learn to draw, sketch, mix colors, and prepare their canvases. They learn which paint brush to use for specific paints and canvases. The students paint 2 or 3 works of art and the students write a sentence or 2 about each to share with the audience at the *recital.

Seasonal Theme - Each season we pick a theme to use throughout each instructional area. This creates connectivity and continuity between the instructors and what each is teaching specifically, which also helps students to stay focused on overall tasks. The theme is discussed throughout the season. Themes may include biblical topics, family topics, cultural or holiday seasons. Themes motivate students to move in the direction of purpose and positivity.
